Skeleton Island, curse of the Golden Skull

SKELETON ISLAND - Was a pirate secret location, known only to a small number of captains by that name. But as piracy became unfashionable with mass hangings, the numbers of those in the know, dwindled. Until, all that remained was a location carved in wood. Generally hidden somewhere safe by the pirate concerned. This location was useless without a chart giving the exact position that each pirate buried their stash. The maps made on parchment, were handed down to the next generations, by way of inheritance free of taxes.

GHOST SHIP & GLOBAL FALLOUT

The Elizabeth Swann drifted through the Atlantic like a phantom, its sleek hull slicing through the water without a whisper. The night pressed in, thick and impenetrable, as if the ocean itself conspired to hide them. Inside the bridge, the soft luminescence of holographic displays bathed the crew in spectral light, lending the cabin an almost ethereal quality.

John Storm sat motionless at the command console, the weight of the moment settling across his shoulders. The hum of silent propulsion underscored the eerie quiet—no clanking machinery, no thrumming engines—just the vast, empty ocean stretching infinitely in every direction.

HAL’s voice, calm yet omnipresent, rippled through the quiet.

"Commander Storm, stealth protocols remain fully engaged. We are invisible to their eyes, unheard by their ears."

John allowed himself a slight smile. A ghost ship, he thought. Perfect.

“The blockade?” he asked, tone clipped.

"Still concentrated in the southwestern Caribbean. Their focus lingers on our last known coordinates."

Storm leaned back, the weight of his decision pressing against him. He could disable those ships with a single command. The Excalibur cannons, dormant for now, sat ready, eager. But war wasn’t his aim. History was.

The encrypted communication channel flickered, breaking his thoughts. A weary face emerged—President Lincoln Truman, his sharp gaze cutting through the holographic interference.

“Storm,” Truman began, his voice heavy with restrained urgency. “Report. We’re getting conflicting intel—something about a joint British-Spanish naval blockade?”

John exhaled, running a hand through his hair. “That’s correct, Mr. President. Maynard’s gone rogue, colluding with the Spanish. They claim Morgan’s treasure—Blackbeard’s legacy—belongs to them. A flimsy claim wrapped in centuries-old pirate myths.”

Truman’s brow furrowed. “And the United States’ stance?”

John met his gaze head-on. “I requested intervention.”

A pause. Then, the President leaned forward slightly. “After careful deliberation, Mr. Storm, we will maintain neutrality. This is an international dispute, and one we cannot enter without proper jurisdiction. That being said…” He paused, expression darkening. “…we will condemn any act of piracy against the Elizabeth Swann.”

John nodded, tension tightening in his chest. “Understood, Mr. President.”

As the hologram faded, a new transmission emerged—Jill Bird of the BBC World Service, her face a beacon of fierce curiosity.

“John! You made it out! The news is flooded with reports of a naval blockade. What exactly did you uncover?”

Storm leaned forward, a predatory gleam in his eyes. “Jill, we found it. Morgan’s treasure—the lost Aztec gold. And I have the footage to prove it.”

The air in the bridge seemed to shift as the holographic feed erupted with images: glistening gold artifacts, intricately carved jade relics, and the jewel of them all—the Golden Skull, gleaming under artificial light.

Jill’s breath hitched. “My God, John… this will rewrite history.”

John’s lips curled into a grin. “It will. And I’m giving you the exclusive. Title it… ‘Blade Runner: Unearthing Morgan’s Gold.’ Let the world see who’s trying to bury the truth.”

Jill’s nod was firm. “Consider it done.”

Moments later, HAL’s voice broke the silence.

"Captain Storm, the footage is being widely disseminated. News outlets report significant global fallout. Maynard is facing intense scrutiny."

Another intercepted transmission flashed on screen.

"URGENT: Commander James Maynard AWOL. Suspected possession of a high-value artifact. Immediate alert issued."

John clenched his fists. Maynard took the Golden Skull.

The news feed exploded with headlines. Royal Navy Commander Relieved of Duty Amid Treasure Scandal. Spanish Government Silent on Blockade.

HAL’s voice hummed again. "Public sentiment is shifting. Maynard is branded a fugitive. The tide is turning."

John gazed into the abyss beyond the bridge’s windows. The world was watching. The truth was out. But the hunt? It was far from over.

SORE LOSERS - Not content with having rogue officers in their navies, Spain and England conspire to arrest John Storm on trumped up charges. With his superhuman strength and BioCore implant, John and Hal already know their illegal game plan, a misuse of authority, a standard ruse when the Brits and Spain don't get a look in on a mountain of gold. History repeats itself. John wins the case easily in The Hague, with help from legal eagle, George Franks, with both Britain and Spain having their knuckles rapped with significant fines for what is clearly a malicious prosecution abuse of process and contempt of court.

HURRICANE IOTA NOVEMBER 2020 - Providencia (boat dock) and Santa Catalina were ravaged by extreme weather when heading into 2021.

The small Colombian island of Providencia was hit hard by the powerful Category-5 hurricane Iota, which caused severe damage to the majority of local’s homes and the already scant public infrastructure.

At that time, Colombia’s President, Ivan Duque, said it is the first Category 5 – the most serious of hurricanes – to hit the Andean nation in its history.

Providencia island had a population of 5,000 people and is part of the Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina located in the Caribbean Sea about 775km (481 miles) northwest of mainland Colombia. Geographically, it is closer to the central American country of Nicaragua.

The hurricane was first considered a Category 2 but just before passing Providencia it developed into a Category-5 tropical cyclone which NASA said can have wind speeds of up to 253km/h (157mph) and has the ability to cause catastrophic damage.

Neighbouring larger island San Andres also faced damage to its infrastructure, albeit less intense. Northern Colombian coastal cities, like Cartagena, have flooded and are battling high winds.

According to the United States Office of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 2020 has had the highest hurricane activity in the Atlantic since official records began in 1851.
