GORE
Gore Verbinski is an American filmmaker and musician. He is best known for directing the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films (2003–2007), The Ring (2002), Mouse Hunt (1997), and Rango (2011), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Verbinski was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on March 16, 1964. He is the son of Victor Verbinski, a physicist who worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Laurette Verbinski, a nurse. Verbinski is of Polish descent on his father's side. He has four siblings: Janine, Claire, Diane, and Steven.
Verbinski developed an interest in filmmaking at an early age. He began making short films with his friends when he was a teenager. He also played guitar in several punk rock bands. After graduating from high school, Verbinski attended UCLA Film School, where he studied directing.
Verbinski's first professional directing job was on the music video for "Bad Religion" by the band Bad Religion. He went on to direct several other music videos, as well as commercials for Nike, Coca-Cola, and Budweiser.
Verbinski's breakthrough came in 1997 with the release of Mouse Hunt, a comedy about two mice who go to war with a family of humans. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it established Verbinski as a rising star in Hollywood.
In 2002, Verbinski directed The Ring, a horror film based on a Japanese novel. The film was a massive success, grossing over $225 million worldwide.
