Jack Davenport is an English actor. He is best known for his roles as James Norrington in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, Will Stamper in the BBC sitcom Coupling, and Lord Cutler Beckett in the Starz series Black Sails. He has also starred in films such as The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), The Libertine (2004), and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010).

Early life and education

Davenport was born on 18 August 1973 in Hammersmith, London, England. His father, Philip Davenport, is an artist, and his mother, Elizabeth Davenport, is a sculptor. Davenport has two sisters, Sophie and Olivia.

Davenport attended Westminster School, where he was a member of the school's drama club. He then studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he graduated with a degree in English and Drama.

Career

Davenport's professional acting career began in the late 1990s. He made his television debut in the BBC drama series "Heartbeat" in 1997. He then starred in the BBC sitcom "Coupling" from 2000 to 2004.

In 2003, Davenport starred in the Disney film "The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" as James Norrington. He reprised the role in the sequels "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" (2006), "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" (2007), and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" (2017).

Davenport has also starred in films such as "The Libertine" (2004), "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" (2010), "About Time" (2013), and "The Woman in Black: Angel of Death" (2014).

In 2014, Davenport starred in the Starz historical drama series "Black Sails" as Lord Cutler Beckett. The series ran for four seasons from 2014 to 2017.

Davenport has also had a successful stage career. He has appeared in productions of Shakespeare's plays "Hamlet" and "The Tempest". He also starred in the London premiere of "The Lieutenant of Inishmore" in 2001.

Personal life

Davenport is married to the actress Michelle Gomez. The couple has two children together.

Pirates of the Caribbean was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer with directors Gore Verbinski, Rob Marshall, Joachim Rønning, and Espen Sandberg. The series was primarily written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio.
